As 2012's Dickens bicentenary celebrations continue, we launch an exciting new tour of short films. With the help of expert guides, the films explore the many ways Dickens' work has been adapted for the screen, from the pre-cinema magic lantern to 1940s cinema and 21st century TV.

Along the way, the films trace key moments in the development of the moving image, while writer Gwyneth Hughes explains how she came to complete Dickens' last unfinished work for 2012's The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and actor Timothy Spall relates his own Dickens experiences.

The tour has been designed for students to explore independently as well as for use in the KS3/4 classroom. Click on the 'Tours' tab at the top of this page to find this and all of our other tours, including similar short film tours on Ken Loach and the extraordinary polar exploration film The Great White Silence.
